Diagnosing Your Stove for Possible Problems

Common Stove Repair Problems You Can Fix by Yourself

Stove repair isn’t something to be taken lightly but there are common problems you are able to diagnose and fix by yourself.

Electric stove won’t heat

Before possibly dismantling your electric stove, clarify if the issue if limited to one burner or all of them. If you find out it is specific to one burner, examine its heating coil and connection. Make sure to turn off the stove and cooling it before examining it. Unplug the heating coil and check for damages and if it is undamaged, use another heating coil of the same make and test it.

However, if the issue is with all of its burners, a larger electrical issue may be present. If the electric stove has an integrated digital clock and timer but doesn’t display, an electrical surge may have blown a fuse.

Double-check and test the outlet you use for this appliance, and if it functions, then a fuse may have blown in the stove itself. The fuse in your electric stove is located near its heating elements but if your test doesn’t solve the problem, best to call an expert in stove repair for further analysis and diagnosis.

Gas stove won’t light

Always remember to test out gas stoves in well-ventilated areas and keep your head away from it when in use. A gas stove, not lighting is a common problem that gas stove owners face. The gas stove clicks repeatedly if it is on and if you can’t hear a click, then you have a defective ignition switch. The gas stove also releases gas as you turn it on and if you can’t smell the gas, there might be issues present with its gas flow.

Electric stove won’t adjust the heat

The ability to regulate the level of heat an electric stove produces becomes lost. There is nothing in between so instead of producing different levels of heat, it’s either on or off regardless of its setting. The infinite switch may be the cause of this problem. It is a switch connected to the dial and it functions as a regulator to its different power levels thus, it needs to be replaced.
